One of the most enduring Filipino tradition is the Undas–or the celebration of All Saints and All Souls’ Day here in the Philippines. On these days, millions flock to the cemeteries to spend a day remembering and praying for their loved-ones who had passed away. Several days before , we go to sweep , clean and repaint the tombstones and even light the first candles. It’s a day of prayers and of quiet contemplation but mostlly, it’s a day to go on a picnic with extended family and touch base. We share this tradition with our Mexican and Chinese counterparts in bringing flowers, candles, incense and food offerings (called atang). As you will see in this video, neither rain nor heat can deter us from observing this age-old tradition of remembering The Dead.
